Striped Separates

One of my favorite looks lately is the matching separates trend! It gives you the cohesive, flattering look of a one piece jumpsuit or dress, with the flexibility of separates. This skirt is one of my favorite summer pieces this year (still available and on sale here!) but I have had some moments wondering how to style it. I didn’t want to be boring and add a navy top, but I also feel like always wearing another bold solid color with it was a bit predictable.

Lo, and behold, I came across this old rugby striped T-shirt in my closet and knew the match was made in heaven! Have you been keeping tabs on the matching separates trend that’s everywhere in fashion lately? I love it! You get the benefit and flexibility of wearing two different pieces (which can then each be paired with other tops or bottoms) but the cohesive, flattering look of a dress. Or even a jumpsuit! Wearing a matching shirt and pants is also totally OK and looks both effortless and pretty darn fab.

I chose to pair this neutral-colored ensemble with lots of pops of color using my bag, shoes and earrings.  That’s just because I can’t ever seem to leave my closet without some bright color splashed somewhere! Wearing any bold pattern from head to toe, however, can usually carry itself and doesn’t need much addition in the way of accessories.

My next experiment will be pulling off this boldly striped skirt with a floral top! Preferably one with a smaller floral pattern to offset the big rugby stripes. Because, after all, florals & stripes belong together, forever and ever, amen.
