Apparently I just can’t get enough hearts and red and pink this year!  Before we say good-bye to Valentine’s Day for good, I had to share this fun little circle dress I made for my girls a couple years ago.  I made one for Juliet and 2 for the twins back then, and sadly this size 4 version is the only remaining dress that fits anyone.

I can’t wait for Marilyn to fit into one next year – it’s one of my favorite little girl projects ever!

I made the bodice using my Infinite A-line dress pattern with the cap sleeve option (be sure to cut all the way through the back of your bodice and lining for the zipper).  Then, adding a circle skirt is super easy!  Just measure the circumference of your bodice’s waist opening, and create a circle skirt to fit (be sure to add an extra inch to the waist for the zipper seam allowances).  Check out this video and this online calculator to do the work for you!

Once you’ve created your skirt (it will look like a giant donut), create a back seam by laying it flat and cutting right through the “donut”, from the outer edge to the inner opening.  Now sew up that back seam, RST, leaving 3-7″ open (depending on the size of your child) at the waist.  Press the raw edges of this opening under 1/2″ to the wrong side.

Pin skirt to bodice, starting and ending with the back opening.  Sew skirt to bodice.  Insert a zipper into the back opening: use this tutorial for inserting a zipper into a fully lined bodice if you need help!

Hem your skirt and voila!  All done.  A fun, twirly dress your little munchkin will wear to the ground.

**Sadly i can’t remember anything about this fabric other than it’s a quilting cotton I bought at M&L Fabrics in CA after our Disneyland trip a couple years ago.  If anyone recognizes it, let me know!!
