Whether you’re planning a baby shower for twin girls, twin boys or any other special arrival, these tips will help you save money, make a statement and most importantly, show love to the mama-to-be!

Having a party is one of my favorite things to do, and celebrating twins? Even more fun! The party pictured here was in honor of my friend who was expecting her second set of twins! Crazy, right? And as a twin mama myself, I know just how big a deal it can be to welcome two new babies at once.

Whether you’re prepared to throw a big twin-themed bash that spares no expense or you have a tighter budget with which to make everything happen, there are a few steps you’ll want to follow to make it a success.

Decide on a baby shower theme

Most of the time when you throw a party, you end up with quite a few extras: a banner, leftover paper plates, streamers, etc. Taking inventory of the supplies you have stashed in a closet somewhere before planning a theme is a great way to save money and help you decide what to do for your next celebration. Party favors are generally something you’ll have to purchase brand new but you can really splurge on them if you make use of decorations you already have around the house.

I decided not to go with a specific theme this time, other than pink. But a few of my most favorite ideas for cute themes are “Double Trouble” (serve double-stuffed Oreos!), a Dr. Seuss theme (remember Thing 1 and Thing 2?), “Two Peas in a Pod” (have lots of veggies with dip) and a “Twinkle Twinkle” theme with pretty stars everywhere. There are seriously so many other twin baby shower ideas. I’d love to hear what you end up doing in the comments!

The twin baby shower invites can reflect the theme you choose and help people prepare for the amazing party they’ll be attending! I love Canva for making the cutest twin baby shower invitations; you can use a digital version to send via Evite or email, or send paper invites via snail mail. I recently bought printed cards via Canva and they were in my mailbox within 5 business days!

Borrow before purchasing

Borrowing decorations and tableware is a great way to put together a gorgeous party for twin babies without breaking the bank. I borrowed the drink dispenser and wire tree decoration pictured here from my fabulous mother-in-law and used them as table centerpieces, then filled in everything else around them.

I knew I needed to make some sort of eye-catching decoration to frame the food table and decided that a balloon arch was about the best (not to mention affordable) way to do it. These balloons cost me a total of around $20 (I used 100 ballooons) and then I bribed my kids with a movie while they blew them all up. I used plastic jewelry filament to string them all together and the whole thing was done in just a couple of hours.

When you’re ready to put together a cute favor idea, Pinterest is your best friend for unique ideas! There are so many fantastic favor ideas for twin showers no matter if the expectant mama is having girl twins or boys.

Make a menu

If you want a great idea for yummy, crowd-pleasing snacks for a special event Iike celebrating twin bundles of joy, try bruschetta (also called crostini)! It’s easy and super yummy.

I just slice up a loaf of french bread and added the following toppings for 3 different flavor profiles:

  1. A little olive oil, sliced tomates, fresh basil and a drizzle of balsamic glaze (I forgot the glaze when making them this time but it’s the best part!)
  2. Fig jam, goat cheese and prosciutto
  3. Goat cheese, Granny Smith apple slices, chopped pecans (or walnuts) and a drizzle of honey

Decide ahead of time what food item you want to splurge on and then fill the table with other, more affordable snacks. I included a platter of cut vegetables and ranch dip, homemade cookies (this is the best recipe ever!) and a batch of bacon wrapped dates filled with goat cheese. YUM!

Choose the perfect baby shower gift

Generally as the host or hostess, you won’t be expected to also give the pregnant mom an extravagant gift but you might be asked to coordinate a group gift. After giving birth to 10 kids myself, my favorite baby shower gifts were ones that helped me take better care of myself while I cared for a new baby.

Check out this postpartum gift box that I created to give the new mama every excuse to have a comfortable, stress-free fourth trimester. It makes the perfect group gift, and is especially perfect for second or third-time moms.

Remember your party goal

It’s really easy to get caught up in the decorations, food, music and cleanliness of your house before hosting a get-together but in reality, your guests don’t care much about these things!

People will come to your party to celebrate those twin baby girls (or boys!) so if you find yourself stressing over your lack of budget or time to prep, just take a deep breath and realize that guests will have a good time no matter what the party looks like.

I hope these tips help you throw an awesome party for the twin mama-to-be in your life. Happy celebrating!
