It’s a GIRL!

BIG news around here…we had our baby and it’s a GIRL! I had myself convinced we were having a boy, partly because I really wanted little Finn to have a buddy of the same gender next to him in line, just like the other kids do. But now that she’s here, I couldn’t be more thrilled that I have another little girl to dress up. Admittedly, I was getting a little panicked that all my girls were growing out of the toddler section at Target.

Another shocker: she was born before my 41 week mark! I haven’t had a singleton come before 41 weeks since my firstborn! She came fast and furious in the wee hours of Wednesday, April 22 (40 weeks and 5 days). She just barely got her own birthday since the 21st is both my brother’s and one of her cousin’s birthdays.

That dark hair was the biggest surprise of all! None of of our kids have had a lick of hair at birth, let alone a ton of dark brown hair! I can’t believe she’s not another redhead. This genetics thing is pretty mind boggling.

She was 7 pounds even and 21 inches. We’d settled on a boy’s name early on in my pregnancy but, as usual, had the darndest time agreeing on a little girl’s name. She was nameless for about a day…we seriously considered Natalie and Madeline and a couple others I can’t remember now.

We finally settled on one I’d had in the running for years:

Marilyn June Wiscombe.

All our kids have family names for their middle names and June was the name of both Luke’s grandmothers. It’s also a nod to my paternal grandpa who was named Junius.

She is the most perfect baby…sleeps or eats all day long and after an initial rough night, she has slept all night too! Makes a few peeps to be fed a couple times, and then falls back asleep nursing and doesn’t make another sound till morning. The perfect 7th child!

Speaking of which…it’s more than slightly mind blowing to think that we now have SEVEN children. I know that for most people, 5 or 6 is plenty big of a family, but for some reason, it didn’t quite hit me until this baby. We have a BIG family! We only knew one family growing up that had 7 kids, other than my awesome aunt and uncle who had 9. We’re THAT family now, I guess!

And I have to say, I’m pretty dang proud of my brood.

I’ve got some fun birth pictures (well, fun for everyone else…still a little painful for me to look at 🙂 and a birth story that I’ll end up posting soon. I wanted to share this little impromptu photo shoot we had on my bed when she was just 4 days old. Aren’t these little nugget newborns just to die for??!

Side note: I made her baby sleeper out of this awesomely gorgeous fabric from Girl Charlee (my fave online knit resource!) and with this free pattern. Super simple and a newborn essential!

Also had some fun making her newborn skin look pretty with these simple photoshop instructions. Check them out if you’re like me and think photoshop is super duper intimidating.

One day left to survive of this first week home without Luke. I have friends and family helping like crazy but things are still a tad overwhelming 😉 Wish me luck!
