Alright ladies, let’s talk leggings. I love them because they’re trendy, go with everything and feel like pyjamas. The question is, does that mean we should wear them out in public? Look, workout leggings are very different to fashion leggings. Although, they are both extremely comfortable.
Well, let me repeat: they feel like pajamas. So yes, absolutely, I’m wearing these suckers no matter how many “What to Wear After 30” articles try to dissuade me.
I do have a few guidelines I go by, though. Hopefully these will help someone else wear leggings responsibly.
- I always wear them with tunics. Maybe some 18 year old gymnasts can wear leggings with a crop top, but I like to keep my assets covered (pun intended). The sweater in these pics is about as short as I can comfortably go.
- I try to look for leggings with something special on them, so they look more like pants. I love the knit ones I’m wearing here with the center seams and all the pintucks over the knee. I’m also a huge fan of these part-leather ones that are SO comfy, I wanna wear them to bed!
- I
doubletriple check that they’re not see-through! Some of the comfiest leggings are so thin that they can be transparent, and nobody needs that. I try them on, bend over and then have a friend or hubby check my backside. Better safe than sorry, amiright?
(This is my Blue Steel look. I’ve been working on it for hours after my kids go to bed.)
So go forth and wear leggings, my friends! Stretchy pants = happy women everywhere.
