Summer dresses are flowy and cool, comfy and adorable. But what about when your girls wear their sleeveless dresses into the cold grocery store or want to be a little more covered up?

Then it’s a cropped bolero jacket or shrug sweater is the perfect thing to take a casual summer dress up a notch! In this new video tutorial, you’ll learn how to sew a jacket with an existing pattern and in just an hour or two. And if you’ve ever wondered how to sew a shrug for yourself, especially a nicer one to cover a cocktail or evening dress, you can make this tutorial work for that too! Just adjust the size of the pattern you use and anyone can benefit from this cute little cropped bolero jacket tutorial.

The fabric I used actually came from an XXL women’s sweater that I snagged from Old Navy (same place that I got the girls cute star dresses!) and cut up to sew these cute little bolero jackets! So they’re technically cropped sweaters but will work to cover their little shoulders in any fun summer dress, especially if it’s cute patriotic colors like these!

Love the blue dress with the white stars. Does it have sleeves? I’m looking for simple cotton dress patterns to make for my granddaughter, but prefer a dress with some simple sleeve.
