Check out the very last look in this season’s Project Run and Play Challenge!
This signature look was so fun to create and is great inspiration for holiday sewing.

I was so excited for this week’s signature challenge and am so happy that you guys voted to keep me around until the end!  Participating in Project Run & Play has been a ton of fun, but also exhausting and skill-stretching.  If you’d like to vote for this 4th and final week, head here!

Read on for more sewing and creative details…

I knew I wanted to create a holiday-inspired glittery look for this week because sewing for special occasions is hands-down my favorite kind of creating!  I had a great time at Joann’s, picking out this sequined mesh, gold check and faux leather with decorative stitching.  It all just called to me, and even though I was shopping without a firm design in mind, I’m glad it fell into place once I got home.

The dress started from my Infinite A-line Dress pattern bodice, only I flipped it around to get that low neckline dip in the back.  I also added a peter pan collar and some handstitched sequin trim for more interest up at the top.  I love that part!  I had all kinds of different ideas for the sleeves, but ended up just adding some extra fullness to the sleeve cap and left them simple.  I always get nervous about overdoing things when I’m working with elaborate fabrics.

I added a simple white zipper to the bodice and then pondered the conundrum of what to do with that white zipper as it headed into the black skirt.  As it ended up, little Juliet is skinny enough to not need to unzip the waistline to step into it so that saved me that trouble.  But if I have to change it in the future, I’ll probably just replace it with an invisible zip so it’s not as noticeable in the skirt.

The skirt fabric is my absolute favorite and I really, really wanted to keep it for myself!  Ha!  But I think it works really well with the bodice fabric so I’m content to let Juliet have it.  I originally made a tulle underskirt to make it a little “poofier” but it sort of made the sequined skirt look kind of comical.  So we nixed the underskirt and instead added this high-low hem that was Juliet’s idea.  She loves how it shows her legs in the front as she walks but allows for some drama in the back.

The faux leather jacket was sort of a last minute addition because I just loved the fabric too much to leave it out!  It’s a fun, thin vegan leather with a floral pattern stitched and carved into it.  I just love looking at it and thought it’d make the perfect simple jacket with no closures.  It’s great for fall & winter here in Phoenix where it’s still hitting 80 degree temps on the daily.  I think it looks so cute on Juliet and really wish I had one in my size!

I hope you guys love this fancy signature look as much as I do.  Be sure to hop over to the Project Run & Play blog to vote for the last time this season.  Thanks for following along on the ride!

I think the sleeves were a great idea as you did them. And yes to the sequin trim!! I can definitely see the family resemblance in these pictures too. 🙂

The dress is beautiful and I love the jacket! I can see why you wanted that skirt fabric for yourself! I love the peter pan collar with the sequin trim too.
