Looking for an affordable, kid-friendly Christmas tablescape? Well, pull out your Cricut Maker machine and get to crafting because these three simple DIY holiday decorations will dress up even the simplest of holiday tables. Make life even easier on yourself and use disposable plates!
Just like every child in the entire universe, I’m SO excited that Christmas is on its way! It was always my favorite holiday growing up, and only partially because of the presents; I loved the snow, the decorations, the traditions, the food and the surprise service opportunities.
It’s just a magical time of year and about a million times more so when seeing it as a parent, through your children’s eyes.
Sadly, the magic of the holidays can become tarnished if we let ourselves become overly pressured by outside expectations. Christmas will still come without handmade stockings, a perfectly tinseled tree, making gingerbread houses from scratch and throwing all the fancy parties.
If it’s your aim to simplify this year, then let me present to you the world’s easiest Christmas tablescape! It’s made up of just a few key items, all of which will take you less than an afternoon and under $30 to procure, even if feeding a crowd like ours!
BONUS: the disposable plates and flatware will make clean-up so fast it’ll bring a tear to your eye.
I snagged this cute tablecloth at Target and the gold trees are from Home Goods a couple years ago. The flatware and plates are from Costco and all the decorative elements are made with my Cricut Maker! Read on for the instructions.
The trouble with coming up with this tablescape was whittling down my ideas for what to make with my Cricut machine. I decided on glittery stars hanging from the chandelier, mistletoe napkin rings and festive paper place cards.
But I also toyed with the idea of making chargers out of felt or balsa wood, a fabric table runner and intricate paper snowflakes to hang from the ceiling. SO MANY IDEAS!!
Place Cards
These were about as simple a project as they come. You can access my saved place card project here or just create your own using this card and whatever Christmas cutout shape your little heart desires. Drag the shape on top of the card, adjust it to the right size, highlight both the card and shape and click “attach” to keep them together. Then add your family members’ names in the font of your choice (I used Alexis Mattox – Emma Rae). I used this holiday sampler cardstock pack.
Having the Cricut Maker write on my cards was pure magic! I just inserted a Cricut felt pen in the machine, along with my fine point blade and it wrote and cut on the cards all in one go. Amazing!! I also taped a little piece of contrasting scrap paper behind each cut out for more visual interest.
Pro tip: ALWAYS take your pen out and cap it the minute your project is done to avoid forgetting and having your pen dry out.
Napkin Rings
I had a couple different ideas for these but this simple mistletoe silhouette turned out just as I envisioned them! Get my finished project here or create your own.
This is the mistletoe shape I used, then I just added a long rectangle to the stem and a small circle to the other end of the rectangle to round it out. Then I highlighted all the shapes and hit “weld”. Finally, I added a small rectangle (just barely wider than the long rectangle stem) and placed that inside the berries for the ring to go through. Be sure to attach these two shapes as well!
I used this sparkle paper for the napkin rings and then wrapped them around the napkins and flatware. I threaded the rounded edge through the little slot in the mistletoe, and then taped that loose end under the napkin roll.
Glitter Stars
These were my final project and probably my favorite! I’d never worked with this Cricut party foil before but it was way thicker and higher quality than I expected.
Access my finished project file here or make your own! I made my stars on the shorter side because I didn’t want them obstructing our view at dinner, but I also added a second size in this file for you guys in case you want them longer and more dangly!
This was quite simple to create as well; I just used this star shape and this circle coil (this one for the longer version) and welded them together to create swirly, sparkly stars over the table that all my kids were in awe over.
