No one wants the heartache of spending hours on a handmade garment, only to have it ruined by stains!
Learn about Persil® laundry detergent and how it can keep your precious sewing projects looking brand new.

Hey guys!  I’ve got lots of Christmas sewing planned for the kids (and maybe myself if I can get my act together in time!) but did anyone sew something amazing for Halloween this year?  How about Thanksgiving?  I always (ok, ok…almost always) prewash my fabric before sewing but then I get really anxious once the garment is made and starts getting worn.  I worry about fabric bleeding and shrinking but more than anything, I worry about my kids and their messy lives!

Halloween and the holiday season are especially painful because there’s so much candy and food being consumed (usually with lots of dyes) and it inevitably ends up all over my littles’ handmade outfits.  I try really hard not to be that psycho mom following my 8 year old around with a bib (poor child) but no one wants to see their hard work wasted by some pesky stains!

I was super excited to try Persil® ProClean® laundry detergent because I’ve been hearing a lot about it from friends and bloggers.  (Yes, I just used the words “super excited” in connection with laundry.  I can’t help it – see that face up there?  I basically live in the laundry room.  Hashtag 8 kids)

Target® now carries a trial size (10.1 oz) of Persil laundry detergent for just $1.99!  That was all the excuse I needed to snag a bottle and try it out.  And I’m super impressed!  I had some persistent stains on this cute Sleeping Beauty dress I made for Vivian a few years ago and so I decided to use it to treat them.

When working with delicate fabrics, it’s really important to test any new detergent on a hidden area of the garment, just in case!  Then I poured about a few tablespoons of Persil laundry detergent on the spots, rubbed them in a bit and let it sit for five minutes (be sure to follow directions on both the detergent label and your fabric care instructions!).  Then I tossed it in the wash with a few other things and voila!  I was really happy that it got out the mystery stains on the bodice that had been hanging around for a while (although you should definitely treat your stains asap, don’t be lazy like me).

Use the warmest water your fabric can handle and, this is the most important if you ask me, check the stains before drying your garment!!  You can always treat again if needed but once the dryer sets stains, they get much harder to remove.  Anyone else had that happen to them?  Ugh, it makes me so mad!

You can read all of Persil’s laundry tips here and shop it online at Target.com!

Persil laundry detergent has something called “Pro10 technology” which means that it cleans on 10 different dimensions: stain fighting, whitening, brightening, anti graying, clean rinsing, long lasting freshness, odor fighting, cold water cleaning, clean fresh scent, fiber care – whew! And I really like the smell.  It also works in all washers, regular and high efficiency.

I plan on getting about 6 loads out of this trial size and for less than 2 bucks, you can’t beat that kind of low risk commitment to try a new detergent!  It also comes with a $2 coupon on the back towards another size later on.

I’d love to hear if any of you have laundry care tips for handmade garments!  Anything worked especially well for caring for those precious projects?
