THE Best Fitness Tool for Moms

Our bodies go through a LOT thanks to pregnancy, breastfeeding and the overall exhaustion of motherhood. And while there are tons of gyms, fitness programs and workout apps available, there aren’t a lot that specific for mom-bods. The Bloom Method is truly the best fitness tool for moms!

If you’re looking for a great fitness program, prepare to be inundated. There are literally 1.7 billion (I’m guesstimating) workout videos and programs available. How’s a girl to choose?

I’ve tried my fair share and, in a perfect world, I’d probably do nothing but Blogilates videos (she’s so upbeat and relatable!) or the BBG program (so intense but crazy good). However, my body has taken a beating over 8.3 pregnancies and 9 births. And I’m just now realizing how important it is to focus on correct healing and strengthening of your abdominal muscles and pelvic floor after pregnancy and birth.

Enter: The Bloom Method. I was a little skeptical when I first checked it out and was curious how much more it could teach me after staying fairly active during most of my child-bearing years. I was totally surprised! In fact, I signed up for the paid membership soon after watching all the free stuff and have had access for almost a year now.

Here are a few of the things that I LOVE about The Bloom Method and that I think you’ll love too…

There’s SO much education

Most fitness programs don’t do much teaching aside from how to actually perform an exercise. Brooke (and her team) from Bloom have so many videos about the functions of the pelvic floor (vaginal and anal muscles), the anatomy of your abdominal muscles and how to properly breathe and engage these muscles.

After simply watching their education videos and practicing what they call diaphragmatic breathing, I suddenly felt so much stronger! I had more energy to pick my baby out of his crib, to sit up and roll over in bed, to pick up heavy things around the house – you name it. I really feel that understanding how our core works to keep our bodies together is key to our overall health and fitness and too many of us have no clue why!

Side note: If you’ve struggled with incontinence during or after pregnancy, Brooke also teaches that this is due to a weak pelvic floor and even shows you how to strengthen it. She says that just because “every mom pees a little” doesn’t make it normal!

There’s a fitness program for every mom

Never worked out a day in your life? Check.

Pregnant and not sure what exercises are safe? Check.

Newly postpartum without yet being cleared for exercise? Check!

The Bloom Method has videos for every one of these scenarios. The ones for new moms begin with teaching how to breathe properly, engage underused (or damaged) ab muscles, and simply sit up the right way so that you don’t hurt yourself. I found it all so crazy helpful in the first few months after having Dean.

Once you’ve got the basics down, you can continue moving on to their Strength & Sweat video series which are more intense but still super safe for moms. There’s also a Mobility series and a Yoga series and videos specifically for women suffering from issues like Diastasis Recti and organ prolapse.

In other words, regardless of where you fall on the mom-workout spectrum, the Bloom Method has the perfect set of videos for you!

A few things I wish it had

As awesome as the program and mobile app are, there are a few features I wish it had.

Most videos don’t have music, and while I get why this is (they want to make sure you hear the verbal instructions very clearly) it’s kind of a downer to exercise without music. I often just add my own, once I understand the instructions really well.

I’m also not a huge fan of the app layout. It’s a little tricky figuring out exactly what workout I want to do, and I with there was a way to keep track of which videos I’ve already watched and which are my favorites.

All that being said, I still think The Bloom Method a phenomenal program that addresses a real need amongst moms: a throrough educational and practical approach to rehabilitating our bodies after the strain and trauma of pregnancy and birth.

I highly recommend it!

This sounds great! I recently found Good for the Swole on Instagram, she had a baby a day after I did and her pre, pregnancy and post work outs and education sound very similar. So nice to find a place where basic mom issues are addressed!
