We’ve been diapering babies and toddlers for over 14 years in our household which means we know a thing or two about messy bums. I personally don’t mind all the diapers that accompany raising 9 kids, and I’ve certainly learned plenty about the best way to take care of all that mess!

Diaper rash is an aggravating problem that we’ve dealt with a handful of times but thankfully we don’t see it much anymore. A big reason for this is because of the diapering products we choose. Aveeno® Baby Sensitive All Over Wipes are one example because they gently cleanse baby’s bottom and leave it feeling moisturized, instead of just cleansing. Who doesn’t love a soft baby bum??

You can try Aveeno Baby Wipes when you make your weekly Target run!

Some of our kids have had more sensitive skin than others. I remember when Toby was in diapers, it seemed he had a rash more often than not! It was heartbreaking to see his little skin turn red and irritated, and it would sometimes get so bad that it would break the skin. It’s such a horrible feeling knowing that the next time you change your baby’s diaper, it will make him cry and cry. Cue the mom guilt.

I remember looking for specific things in the perfect baby wipes for sensitive skin; they had to be hypoallergenic and free from parabens, phthalates, fragrance and alcohol. But back then, that was a really hard thing to find! We’ve used Aveeno® Baby products for years, and so I was excited to see that Aveeno® Baby has expanded beyond the products you know and love to offer solutions for diapering needs—found at Target. These Aveeno Baby Wipes are free from all the harmful substances listed above, plus they use a 99% naturally derived formula including oats and aloe; two ingredients known for soothing irritated skin.

I used the 168 ct of Aveeno® Baby Sensitive All Over Wipes, which features three 56 ct. You can learn more about this product here.

Preventing and Healing Diaper Rash

  1. Prevention is key, and the best way to do that is to change your baby’s diaper as often as possible. Nowadays, disposable diapers are so efficient. They can hold in waste for hours and hours, but that’s not great for baby’s skin. So, instead of waiting until your baby’s diaper is full, change it every time you notice it’s wet! This will keep baby’s skin dry and healthy.
  2. Limit baths and moisturize often. I remember being a brand new mom and thinking that my baby’s body needed washing as often as mine did, but that’s just not true! Sensitive skin gets dried out easily, so limiting the amount of time your baby spends in the bath, shower, or pool is a good way to keep it healthy (we only bathe our infants once a week!). And don’t forget the lotion afterwards. I’m a big fan of Aveeno® Baby wash and lotion as well.
  3. Let baby’s bum air-dry after baths and diaper changes. This isn’t strictly necessary if your baby has healthy skin, but if you notice any irritation, this is a great way to clear it up. Pat the wet skin gently with a soft towel, then lay them down somewhere safe on another dry towel (in case of accidents) until their bottom is totally dry. Then, apply lotion and diaper back up!
  4. Use hypoallergenic baby products formulated for sensitive skin! Aveeno® Baby Wipes have a resealable package so they don’t dry out, are large and durable (pretty much a necessity for those massive blowouts), and they can even safely be used on baby’s sensitive hands and face anytime they need it (read: every five minutes for messy toddlers and crawlers).

Best of luck keeping your sweet baby’s skin healthy and smooth! Be sure to try Aveeno Baby Wipes for sensitive skin in the baby section at Target.
