Shopping for baby clothes may be one of my most favorite activities of ALL TIME. Especially when it’s for my own new baby!

The outfits are adorable, they’re itty-bitty and they just make welcoming a new baby into the house all the more exciting.

If you’re looking for the best baby clothes store (online or brick and mortar), I’ve rounded up my top choices and dish all about why I’ve loved them over the years. After all, I’ve been in the market for baby clothes for 14 years!

My best advice for buying for a new baby is this: buy only a couple outfits in newborn size (many babies are born bigger than this!), and purchase almost all the 0-3 month stuff in cozy, sleeper-type styles. Babies just sleep almost all day for the first several months anyway! Save the less comfy stuff for older sizes.

Baby Gap

With my first two babies, we were too frugal to shop at Baby Gap, even in the sale section. But my SIL often dressed her baby in Gap clothes and they were always so darn cute.

So when I was pregnant with Juliet, I started scouting my local store and would figure out when the sale stuff had an additional discount applied, and then I’d stock up on future seasons of clothes. The best discounts (and availability of styles) seem to be easiest to find at the brick and mortar stores but sadly more and more are closing down lately. See if you’ve got one by you!

Not only is Gap’s kid clothing adorable, but it is hands down the best quality of any stores I’ve shopped at regularly. We’re still using Juliet’s hand-me-downs for little Alice and they’re 10 years old. Barring the usual stains that come from childhood, they’re in amazing condition!

The Children’s Place &
Carter’s

The Children’s Place has been around forever; I remember shopping here with my mom when I was a kid! Back when we couldn’t afford Baby Gap, this is where I came instead.

Their clothes aren’t bad looking, and while the quality isn’t as great as Gap’s, the prices cannot be beat. Head into one of their stores (or hit the website) during a mega sale and you can walk away with an entire wardrobe for practically nothing.

This is where we always shop when we need coats, fleece jackets or other warm weather gear for vacations that take us away from Arizona in the winter.

Carter’s is similar in quality and price except I’ve found that they have WAY more baby stuff than TCP and their discounts are just as awesome.

Old Navy

Old Navy has been a lifesaver as a mom of a ton of kids; and while their quality and prices probably fall somewhere between Gap’s premium and The Children’s Place discount, they’re a solid option when you’re buying in bulk.

Their baby options are kind of hit or miss in the trendy factor but definitely worth taking a look, especially if they’re having a giant sale. This is the place I go for the jeans, T-shirts and socks for my kids, but not necessarily the cutest special occasion clothes.

Online Boutiques

Some online boutiques that have popped up in the past few years have THE most stylish baby clothes, and are made of super soft fabrics. These stores are usually more expensive than your big box stores but I love knowing that I’m getting quality and supporting a small business at the same time.

Some of these are run by regular stay-at-home moms and you just can’t beat the passion that a small business owner puts into their work! Some of my favorites are:

Candy Kirby Designs: I’ve followed Erin on Instagram for years and am just obsessed with her aesthetic and colorful fabrics. We have a few of her knotted baby gowns and LOVE them.

Rags to Riches: I’ve had my eye on this little shop for a long time too but this is the first time I’ve purchased from them. I bought a knotted baby gown and a romper for this new baby boy and their designs are CRAZY awesome! If you’re looking for gender neutral but still fabulous, you have to check them out.

Solly Baby: I have yet to buy clothes from Solly but I’m obsessed with their baby wraps. I wore Alice in mine practically every single day of the first 6 months of her life. And if their sleepers are made of the same fabric and quality as their wraps, you can’t go wrong.

Good luck shopping! Hope you find something perfect for your baby or that special friend’s or family member’s little one.
