It can be frustratingly difficult to find trendy affordable maternity clothes to wear for all nine months! After 8 pregnancies, I’ve narrowed down the top 4 places to find cute pregnancy wear that won’t break the bank!

Feeling cute and stylish during pregnancy is not an easy feat, especially on a budget! While I’ve managed to make a regular non-maternity wardrobe work for much of my current and past pregnancies (see this post!), sometimes you just desperately need something that’s designed to fit a big ol’ baby belly.

I never would have survived my twin pregnancy, for example, without large maternity shirts and dresses, and even those staples were getting silly looking at the end of those 38 weeks! Check out the following stores for some of my favorite maternity staples and where to save (& splurge).

  1. H&M: Hands down my favorite store for trendy affordable maternity clothes! The tricky thing is that they don’t carry maternity in all stores, but even if you don’t have access to their maternity collection in person, there are LOTS of options online. Now that I’m in my 3rd trimester with this baby, I pretty much exclusively wear the jeans and tees I’ve bought from H&M.
  2. Madewell jeans: While not the cheapest of jean options, if you plan on having more babies, I highly recommend investing in one good solid pair of Madewell maternity denim. They are SO cute and trendy, not to mention they last forever (you can seriously sell these bad boys on eBay or at a consignment shop after you’re done with them and make back a significant amount of your investment). I prefer the low waist elastic band for the first 2 trimesters (and for anytime I’m pregnant during the hot summer months) and the over-the-belly style for that giant 3rd trimester. But if this is your first pregnancy, you might want to try both on and see what you prefer!
  3. Target: Never fail, our favorite mom-store definitely makes the cut for maternity styles! While generally not as on-trend as H&M, Target still wins points for classic styles and low, low prices. This pregnancy I bought this stretchy knit, solid black dress from Tar-jay that I’ve worn over and over and styled a dozen different ways. If you need to stock up on basics, get to your local store or peruse their website for some great options to get you through all 9 months!
  4. Asos: Loved by style bloggers the world over, Asos is an amazing online store for dresses, swimwear, accessories and tons more; their maternity styles never disappoint! I love checking them out especially for dresses and my only complaint is that their selection is SO huge, it can be overwhelming to sift through (plus it’s only online which is a downside for some people).

SIDE NOTE: If you’re not used to shopping at H&M &/or Asos be aware that they both originated in Europe which means no vanity sizing! For example, if you’re usually a size 6 US brands, you’ll want to try closer to a size 10 in these brands. Don’t take it personally, it’s just a totally different size chart!

We could definitely use more maternity options for those of us who want to look both stylish AND save money during pregnancy, but these 3 stores should get you most of what you need! And remember, even if you’re a clothes-lover like me who generally prefers a wardrobe with lots of variety, pregnancy is a great chance to try out a capsule wardrobe for a short period of time. It’s easier to find a small number of clothes that fit and are comfortable, plus you’ll save money in the long run!

Do you have a favorite maternity store you’ve shopped at over and over??
