Back when I was pregnant with Toby (er, 8 1/2 years ago…wow. Feeling ancient.) I wanted a little bassinet for the side of our bed but didn’t want to spend a fortune. I checked out the best bassinets on https://mommyhood101.com and read loads of reviews. This was super helpful and gave me a good idea of the sort of features to look for and avoid when choosing one. I decided I would buy a second hand one if possible, as it would be cheapest and I believe in reusing things where possible. Eventually, I stumbled across a Moses basket at a second hand store and bought it on a whim, then began the hunt for a stand. I ended up buying this Jolly Jumper rocking stand and we LOVE it!

It fits standard sized baskets, it rocks and is super lightweight. At the time I didn’t realize what a blessing that would be but I can’t tell you how many times I’ve reached out in the middle of the night, bleary with exhaustion and dragged the whole thing closer to me or rocked the baby with just a little exertion from my sleep-deprived self 🙂

IMG_0960The only problem back then, was that the basket came with the handles broken off and some dingy white bedding, including a little mattress and bumper pad. I definitely wanted to recover it with something fun, but also knew we’d be having more kids (oh, if only I’d known! haha!) and wanted it to be cute, but gender neutral.

IMG_0950I found this coordinating line of quilting cottons and fell in love. I wish I still knew the source! Someone let me know if they recognize it. It took me a while of staring at the bumper and some trial and error but I finally figured out how to cover it with this much cuter version. Of course, I also had to add ruffles because…well, ruffles!!

IMG_0922We’ve used this setup for every baby since then (except the twins who didn’t fit in there together!) almost exclusively for the first several months of life. Perfect for a breastfeeding mama who loves to sleep with her babies…for about 20 minutes until she realizes that she’ll never get any real sleep for fear of rolling over on her baby. Or fear of said baby peeing all over the bed. Or…well, you catch my drift.

On that note, have I mentioned how awesome a sleeper Marilyn is?? Seriously, my best by FAR. That probably means that I’m being slowly conditioned to the idea of having more kids. Dang.

Just kidding. I’m (obviously) not that hard to convince.

And a baby who sleeps well, is a happy baby indeed. Wouldn’t you be if you had cheeks like that??
